Climbing Sessions

Come and enjoy the excitement and personal achievement of climbing in the spectacular crags of North Wales! Relive those childhood days of clambering over rocks at the beach or scampering up trees (but without getting told off!). Whether you're seeking a challenge, or just want some exciting outdoor fun, I can run half and full day climbing sessions in North Wales appropriate to your wishes.

What will we do?

I'll talk to you about what you want to get out of the session beforehand, so I can pick a good location and decide what to do with the time. Generally speaking though, on a half-day session we'll get you up a variety of climbs at a single crag and teach you some basic climbing skills. On a full-day session we have a bit more time to explore some other skills, such as abseiling, and also visit more than one location to experience climbing on different kinds of rock. I always aim to offer a very personalised service - so contact me to talk about options.

What will I need to bring?

You'll just need comfortable clothes which allow you to move freely (jogging bottoms and a t-shirt/sweatshirt is good) and some light but solid footwear. Normal running/walking trainers are fine. As the weather can change rapidly in the mountains, it's a good idea to also bring a waterproof and some warm clothes, just in case. If you're out for a day session then you'll need a packed lunch and it's always best to bring plenty to drink, especially if it's hot. I'll provide all the climbing and safety gear and I can advise you in more detail before the session.

What about the kids?

If your child is able to walk and move confidently, then they're good to climb - I've taken children out from the age of 3 before. Just be aware that the mountain environment does take a bit more concentration to be in, so a shorter session may be more appropriate if you have very young children. For insurance purposes, I can't take out under 18s unless they're accompanied by a responsible adult, so you'll need to come along too.

...but is it safe? What if I fall?

There will be no falling! Whilst it isn't possible to guarantee complete safety, in any environment, I have many years experience of keeping people safe in the mountains and crags. You will be protected by a safety rope at all times whilst you are off the ground, and I will make sure you are in a safe location when you're not climbing. All I ask is that you follow my instructions straight away when we're at the crag.

I'm scared of heights. Should I stay at home?

Not necessarily! Everyone gets scared to some extent when climbing. The trick is to deal with the fear appropriately. I can help you manage your fears in this situation and expose you to the right level of scariness for you personally. The satisfaction of overcoming your fear is worth it!

What if it's raining?

We get our fair share of rain over here, but if I really can't find somewhere that's escaping the wetness, we also have some excellent indoor climbing walls as an alternative.

How much will it cost?

For normal climbing taster sessions, the cost is £25 per adult for a half-day session and £40 for a full day - half-price for under 16s. This price is for up to 5 people - contact me if there's more of you.
